Despite the wide variety of ingredients used to make up the homemade diet, the latter will still be deficient in essential minerals and vitamins such as calcium, copper, iron, vitamin A, some B-complex vitamins. The ingredients used, in fact, both raw and cooked, even if offered in the right quantities, do not contain enough and this is why a vitamin and mineral supplement specifically formulated to make it complete and balanced must be added daily to the home-made diet. Nutritional deficiencies must be avoided to prevent health problems in the animal.
